BMW's first R80, the R80/7, was introduced in 1977. Like its R75/7 predecessor, the R80/7 was powered by BMW's traditional air-cooled flat-twin engine coupled to low-maintenance, shaft-drive transmission. Recognising the increasing demand for off-road styled models, BMW announced the first R80G/S in September 1980. Based on the equivalent roadster, the G/S featured a 21" front wheel, raised mudguards, high-level exhaust system and a single-sided swinging arm. Although the R80G/S was too heavy for serious rough stuff it nevertheless excelled as a long-distance tourer, a market sector that its successors dominate to this today.
The model on offer here is in superb condition and features many upgrades, including:
- ZACH exhaust (nieuw)
- Bing carburettors with modified choke
- Double oil sump for better oil cooling
- Kickstarter
- Electronic odometer
- Steel brake lines
- Classic style valve covers
- Special crash bar with side stand
- Panniers
- Acerbis hand guards
- Custom foot pegs
